Lynn Blake and Homer Kelley's Yellow Book Part 5

(Paul Bertholy and a young Lynn Blake)
Here's something Mr. Blake posted on his website:
I was a student of both Homer Kelley and Paul Bertholy. First Homer (in January 1982) and then Paul (in September 1983). To my knowledge, they never met, nor did they correspond in any way. I would be surprised if either knew of the other's exisence.
During my three days with Paul, he showed me his golfing library. In fact, he gave me two books, one of which was Golf (1927) by Bob MacDonald.Interestingly, modern-day guru Jim Hardy has credited that book as the inspiration for his Two-Plane Swing concept.
After that visit, I wrote a thank-you letter to Paul and his wife, Missy, and shared my thoughts on the experience. I'll see if I can't dig it out of the files and post it in the Clubhouse Lounge (Young Yoda thread).

If Mr. Blake didn't find the letter, I think we may have tracked down the original from Mr. Bertholy's archives.

Lynn Blake and Homer Kelley's Yellow Book Part 4
We'd like to welcome our newest follower, BamBam. Welcome aboard and thanks for your support!

Homer Kelley's 3rd Master Class (Steve Snyder is on the Left, Gregg McHatton is in the middle, Mike Holder is on the right, standing behind Homer is John Fey, Mr. Blake took the photo)
In terms of Mr. McHatton, those of you who follow this blog need no introduction. If you do, simply search the blog and there are plenty of instructional pieces by Gregg (who is also my Guru) and you can go HERE to listen to my interview with him.
From Wikipedia:
Mike Holder (born August 17, 1948) is the current athletic director for Oklahoma State University, succeeding Harry Birdwell on September 16, 2005. His previous position was head coach of the men's golf program where he served for 32 years.
Holder was born in Odessa, Texas. He obtained a bachelor's degree in marketing from Oklahoma State while also playing under Labron Harris on the men's golf team. As a player, he won the individual Big Eight championship in 1970 while leading his team to the team championship and earned third-team All-American honors. After completing his MBA at OSU in 1973, he took over for his former coach and enjoyed tremendous success there. His teams won 25 conference championships and eight national championships.
Holder also was the main force behind the construction of Karsten Creek which was completed in 1994. It now serves as the home of the Oklahoma State men's and women's golf teams and hosted the 2003 NCAA championship. His main focus as athletic director now is the construction of an "Athletic Village" that will house most of the athletic facilities in one area of campus.

Lynn Blake and Homer Kelley's Yellow Book Part 2
Kevin Carter mentioned brands of TGM, I don't think there is such a thing. I probably mis-phrased my thoughts, it's more appropriate to say something like "Different Teaching Styles" and some have found preferred stroke patterns that they model their base from. I don't think Mr. Doyle teaches hitting and in my opinion Mr. McHatton is the model for pure swinging. Whereas Mr. Blake teaches both swinging and hitting. This is not to create any controversy, simply to point out some differences. Again, instead of speculating we will ask Mr. Blake. I have to believe there are different schools of thought, many out there were influenced by Tomasello and I'm sure others were influenced by Mr. Sloan and still others by Mr. Doyle.
Here we have Ben Hogan and Lynn Blake's swing sequence. I'd say they're pretty close.

Here's Part 2 of Mr. Blake's sessions with Rick and Josh. Simply click on the image below and the video will start.

Lynn Blake and Homer Kelley's Yellow Book Part 1

Last summer Gotham Golf Friend and Follower, Rick Nielsen PGA, GSEM, decided he needed to strengthen his knowledge of The Golfing Machine. After lurking daily on Lynn Blake Golf Forums, I suggested he visit Mr. Blake to get a different perspective. After doing his due diligence Rick decided to take a trip down to "The Swamp"and experience Mr. Blake's tutelage first hand.
Mr. Nielsen like myself is a student of the West Coast Pivot TGM, whose primary influence come from Mr. Ben Doyle and Mr. Gregg Mchatton.
Mr. Blake teaches TGM by the book verse and chapter. I believe Mr. Blake to be without equal when it comes to knowledge of TGM.

So Rick and his son Josh set out on a pilgrimage to "The Swamp" to meet Mr. Blake.
Now sit back and enjoy as "The Yankees visit the Swamp"

Swing Videos
I need a couple of volunteers to send me footage of their swings. The guys at fixyourgame.com will do an analysis for us. Ray M. has already volunteered. I need one more.
Below are the guidelines:
Video Tips to Maximize the Effectiveness of Fixyourgame.com:
*
Film your swing or putting stroke from two angles, one from behind the player (filming down the target line), and one facing the player (perpendicular to the target line).
*
Get a close up shot of the grip, if possible.
*
Hit 6-8 shots from each angle, using a mid iron (6, 7, or 8 iron), unless there is a specific club that you want to work on.
*
You do not have to be at a driving range, or golf course, you can film your swing hitting wiffle balls in your back yard if desired! Be sure to film your swing while hitting shots, though. We all know that practice swings can be dramatically different than the swing with a ball present.
*
Use a tripod, if available. Tripods are not required, but do provide for a more stable video.
*
Videos do not have to be more than 4-6 minutes in length.
*
Videos from cell phones, digital still cameras, and camcorders are supported.
*
All common video files are supported, including .mpeg, .mov, .avi, .mov, and .mp4

Swining Left II
Here's Gregg with a detailed explanation of "Swinging Left"
By the way, even though this seems like "all the rage", this material is 10 years old.
Note that if your wrists remain supple and relaxed, the swivel takes care of itself as long as you continue to pivot.

Swinging Left
During the Open Championship when Curtis Strange, Tom Watson and Paul Azinger were analyzing and comparing Louis Oosthusin and Paul Casey's swings. Curtis had this to say:
Paul Azinger and Tom Watson wholeheartedly agreed. Today we will begin a video series explaining how to properly "Swing Left". The reason I say properly, is because there is a lot of misinformation out there on what "Swinging left" entails. If you don't have strong enough core muscles, you're in for an experience. Unfortunately my Casio's volume wasn't on during these sessions. But I'm sure you'll get the idea.
Note how Gregg doesn't swivel until his hands are shoulder high on the forward swing. A sign of a true Centripetal release. This leads to the Ben Hogan/Hunter Mahan long right arm. Another thing to note is that the swivel occurs as a result of the continuation of the pivot, long after the ball is gone.
Watch the Hogan model's finish
And as we all know, nobody swung more left than Hogan

Mike Jacobs and Flight Scope on Acceleration
I was going to post something else today, but I came across this video posted by our good friend Mike Jacobs. Mike is the head Professional at Rock Hill Golf and Country Club and is also the Director of Instruction of Mike Jacobs Explosive Golf School. The Mangum videos were filmed at Rock Hill.
In this video Mike has incorporated new technologies to show us what a proper acceleration profile should be. Yesterday's post and the comments by Jim and myself tie in directly to what Mike is presenting here.
I'd also like to thank Mike for his hospitality last week and for bending my putter. I've made a lot of money since!
